Quesnel, BC - Geothermal Energy Potential

Quesnel (pronounced /kwəˈnɛl/)  is a city of about 25,000 people, located at the confluence of the Fraser and Quesnel rivers in the heartland of beautiful British Columbia, Canada. It is part of the Cariboo District and is located between the cities of Prince George and Williams Lake. It sits on the main route to northern British Columbia and the Yukon and is claimed to be home to one of the world’s largest gold pans (disputed by Nome, Alaska and others).  The city uses “Active-Green-Connected” to convey the community’s identity- “where a pleasant quality of life allows for an active life in a splendid, sustainable environment and a well networked and linked society”.

Recognizing that geothermal energy development may be very good for the community as a whole, the community and local partners have taken an active role in learning more about the resource opportunity. As research into the area’s high-temperature geothermal energy potential is still in it’s infancy, the Quesnel and Community Economic Development Corporation (QCEDC) put out a Request for Proposals (RFP) for preliminary research. Borealis GeoPower was pleased to announce that we were awarded the contract to conduct an introductory geothermal energy assessment of the Quesnel, BC area. Thanks to the QCDEC for this opportunity to research the area’s geothermal potential for potential future development.
