Geothermal Energy: Global Best Practices

Borealis GeoPower’s Tim Thompson and Craig Dunn were involved in the completion of a Geothermal Energy Global Best Practices for 2008; Tim Thompson was involved in the subsequent update for 2009. This was an international review of geothermal energy market documenting key variables like resource potential, power production, regulatory environment and incentives for countries involved in high-temperature geothermal energy development. The research paper included the review of 7 countries, including Canada, and compared and contrasted the success of different geothermal energy policies to provide best practices recommendations for the Canadian Geothermal Industry.

The work was completed in response to a Canadian Geothermal Energy Association request for proposal in 2008. The findings of this report were used to help assist CanGEA with recommendations to BC Minster of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resource’s Geothermal Task Force in 2008 and aided in future discussions with other federal and provincial policy-makers in the last year.

Borealis GeoPower will have the opportunity to present some of the findings of this research at the upcoming GRC (Geothermal Resources Council) annual geothermal energy convention in Reno, Nevada this October. For more information about the event visit http://www.geothermal.org/
