DEEP Saskatchewan Geothermal Project

Borealis GeoPower is proud to announce that they are now the Project Managers for the DEEP Saskatchewan Geothermal Project.

DEEP (Deep Earth Energy Production Corp.) is a privately held company engaged in the exploration and development of geothermal in Canada. The property that they are currently developing is approximately 33km northwest of Estevan in southern Saskatchewan, within the Williston Basin. This marks the first geothermal energy power plant project for Saskatchewan, and could be the first in Canada.

DEEP’s immediate goal is to be the first geothermal power producer in Saskatchewan. Using its geological expertise and first-mover advantage, DEEP will harness high quality geothermal resources with advanced technology and engineering to establish a long term renewable power supply. DEEP’s long term goal is to establish 100’s of megawatts of baseload power production from small repeatable 4- 5 megawatt plants.

Project Highlights

  • Well known geology: vast sedimentary reservoir over 100’s of square miles; initial temperature and porosity/permeability data already available from existing well data from oil and gas exploration
  • Small repeatable 4-5 MW projects in an area with the potential for 100’s of megawatts of baseload electrical production
  • Extremely environmentally friendly – no carbon emissions, silent, small surface footprint, inexhaustible heat resource
  • “Off the shelf” turbine and drilling technology – mature and reliable
  • Project economics - Installed cost per MW is competitive with other renewables like wind, solar and hydro, but has the unique advantage of constant power availability (95% capacity)

Experienced geothermal geologist Jay Dick of Borealis has been brought on to lead the project. Mr. Dick has more than 25 years of diverse experience in consulting, project management, business development, mergers & acquisitions, operations, and liaison with international governments. His background has been primarily focused on development of, and project management for, geothermal ventures around the globe, with additional background in power generation and infrastructure.
